Psychiatric/PTSD service dog training involves teaching a dog specific tasks and behaviors to assist individuals with PTSD in managing their symptoms. This can include providing emotional support, reminding the individual to take their medication, interrupting panic attacks or flashbacks, and providing grounding techniques.
The training also focuses on teaching the dog to be calm and well-behaved in public settings and to be responsive to the individual’s needs. Our focus areas for medical event-related tasks include pre-episode, during episode, and post-episode. This will also be paired with command-driven tasks that can help with everyday struggles.
All service dogs training will include obedience, public access, and task training.
